Care Instructions
While vintage 1970s Staffordshire pottery was marketed as durable "Oven-to-Tableware," it requires more delicate handling than modern stoneware to preserve the botanical artwork and prevent structural failure:
  • Avoid Thermal Shock: Ceramic expands and contracts with heat. Never place a cold dish directly into a preheated hot oven, and never transfer a hot dish directly from the oven onto a cold countertop or into soapy water. Allow the dish to heat up gradually with the oven, or let it sit at room temperature before baking.
  • Washing: Hand wash only using a soft sponge and mild dish soap. Avoid abrasive scrubbers or harsh chemical detergents, which can micro-scratch the shiny glaze over time and cause the floral transfer art to fade or peel.
  • Microwave & Dishwasher: It is highly recommended to avoid putting 1970s vintage ceramics in the microwave or modern high-heat dishwashers. The intense localized heat cycles can trigger fine hairline cracks in the glaze (crazing).
  • Storage: When stacking with other bakeware, place a felt pad, paper plate, or layer of bubble wrap inside the dish. This protects the interior Dianthus barbatus illustration from getting scratched by the rough unglazed bases of other nested plates.
